Hello, I’m Gabe
I am an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW), counsellor, and EMDR Therapist dedicated to supporting individuals through life’s most challenging moments.
You may be struggling with trauma that won’t let go, anxiety that disrupts your daily life, or grief that feels overwhelming. Perhaps substance use has become problematic, or past experiences continue to impact your relationships and sense of self. You’re seeking more than just coping—you want genuine healing and lasting change. You’re ready to understand yourself more deeply, break free from patterns that no longer serve you, and build resilience. You want to feel empowered, confident, and equipped to face life’s challenges with clarity and purpose, while rediscovering your strengths and values.
My Background
With a Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Counselling Social Work from UNSW, I bring over 20 years of diverse experience across mental health, addiction services, child protection, domestic violence support, and family therapy. This breadth of experience allows me to offer a comprehensive, compassionate, and nuanced approach to the complexities of mental health and wellbeing.

My interest and focus is helping people navigate symptoms of PTSD and trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, and problematic substance use. I draw on evidence-based therapies including EMDR, CBT, DBT, ACT, and family systems approaches. Together, we’ll create personalised strategies aligned with your unique goals and values, empowering you to achieve meaningful, lasting change and greater self-awareness.

Counselling provides a safe space to process difficult emotions including guilt, shame, anxiety, anger, grief, and hopelessness. It offers clarity when thoughts feel overwhelming and helps you understand yourself more deeply.
You don’t have to navigate this alone. I understand how difficult it can be to reach out but taking that first step is an act of courage and self-compassion. Through our work together, you’ll gain practical tools for self-acceptance, challenge unhelpful beliefs, understand patterns in your behaviour, and create meaningful, lasting change that reflects who you truly want to be.
When you’re ready, I’d be honoured to walk alongside you on your journey toward healing and growth.

EMDR is an evidence-based psychotherapy approach designed to help individuals heal from trauma and distressing life experiences. Developed in the late 1980s, EMDR has been extensively researched and is recognised by major health organisations worldwide as an effective treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other trauma-related conditions.
How EMDR Works
During EMDR sessions, clients briefly focus on traumatic memories while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation—typically through guided eye movements, but sometimes using taps or sounds. This process helps the brain reprocess traumatic memories in a way that reduces their emotional intensity and allows for more adaptive perspectives to emerge.
Benefits of EMDR Therapy
Faster Results – Many clients experience significant relief in fewer sessions compared to traditional talk therapy, with some seeing improvements in as little as 3-6 sessions.
Gentle Approach – EMDR doesn’t require detailed discussion of traumatic events, making it less emotionally overwhelming for clients who find it difficult to talk about their experiences.
Evidence-Based – Extensively researched and endorsed by organisations including the World Health Organisation, the American Psychiatric Association, and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Lasting Change – EMDR helps reprocess memories at a neurological level, leading to permanent reduction in distress rather than just symptom management.
Versatile Treatment – Effective for a wide range of conditions including PTSD, anxiety, depression, phobias, panic disorders, and other issues rooted in difficult past experiences.
Minimal Homework – Unlike some therapies, EMDR typically doesn’t require extensive between-session assignments, making it more manageable for busy lives.
What to Expect
EMDR therapy is structured into eight phases, beginning with history-taking and preparation before moving into memory reprocessing. Your therapist will ensure you feel safe and ready before addressing any traumatic material. Sessions typically last 60-90 minutes, and you remain fully conscious and in control throughout the process.
Is EMDR Right for You?
EMDR can be beneficial if you’re experiencing:
Traumatic memories or PTSD symptoms
Anxiety or panic attacks
Depression linked to past experiences
Phobias or fears
Grief and loss
Performance anxiety
Low self-esteem rooted in past events
What Makes EMDR Different
Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR works directly with how memories are stored in the brain. You don’t need to analyse or understand why you feel a certain way—the bilateral stimulation helps your brain naturally process and integrate difficult experiences, similar to what happens during REM sleep.
Getting Started
No special preparation is needed to begin EMDR therapy. Your therapist will assess whether EMDR is appropriate for your specific situation and will work with you to create a safe, supportive environment for healing. EMDR can be used as a standalone treatment or integrated with other therapeutic approaches.
If you have questions about whether EMDR might be right for you, we encourage you to reach out for a consultation.
